“TAKE 5” GAME-PLAN FOR LIFE/SPORTS–Lesson #1–INTRO

Welcome, if you have not read the previous post, “TAKE 5” Game-Plan for Life/Sports—The Playbook, I encourage you to do so, before you read the following. You can find the post in The “TAKE 5” Game-Plan for Life section.

Starting this first Friday of December 2015 and continuing the first Friday of each new month, I will be presenting a new lesson that explores the “TAKE 5” Game-Plan for Life/Sports Playbook.

Twelve Lessons have been developed, with six or more in the pre-development phase. Each lesson is designed for a one-month interval between lessons. This gives the individual the digestion time necessary between lessons.

As in overeating, one might induce discomfort when attempting a different Game-Plan for Life/Sports. Since our “TAKE 5” Game-Plan is designed for life, let ‘IT’ unfold as time permits or at 30 days intervals.

The “TAKE 5” Game-Plan for Life/Sports has been designed after observing and analyzing the results that many of my students, grades 3-12, achieved while they practiced and committed themselves regularly to the principles and skills of our Game-Plan. Personally, I have been practicing these skills and principles most of my life.

The “TAKE 5” Game-Plan can be implemented  starting in teenager years through the end of the life cycle.

As you journey forward in designing your Wellness Plan and Philosophy of Life, remember the Gem ‘Knowing’ by Buddha. Observe and analyze over time. Then enjoy a ‘Knowing’.

To assist with Lesson #1, slides from our Power Point Presentation will be included:

This is our Opening Slide.1

My reference to the poem ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost is best described as,2

In the Game of Life, the methodology you choose to play will have a direct impact on your results for life. For theory purposes, 3 different roads are an option.3

1. SURVIVIN– explains itself
2. LIVIN– a step above SURVIVIN
3. PLAYIN IN YOUR DREAMS– Involves following a Game-Plan that opens up a door to unlimited possibilities and DREAMS.

Do all dreams come true? No! It is a signal to alter your Game-Plan and/or to start a ‘New Dream’.4

If you are ready to take on a challenge of a new Game-Plan, or any other challenges in life, always remember the following:567

A quote by Al McGuire, famed College Basketball Coach.8

Part of your Game-Plan requires ‘FAITH’.9101112131415

You must also then Believe you are you own,1617

In the Bhagavad Gita 6.5-6 (Hinduism) it is written:

Man should discover his own reality
and not thwart himself.
For he has the self as his only friend,
or as his only enemy.

A person has the self as a friend
when he has conquered himself,
But if he rejects his own reality,
the self will war against him.

Understanding one’s self can lead one to understand,18

Which leads to my Assumption,19

Like getting their hand stuck under a20

If you answered yes, you belong to my fraternity. At the time my initiation occurred, I was a highly educated person. My level of education was plus 32 credits above a Master’s Degree. I conducted a one man’s experiment on the repel system of my automatic garage door. My results could have been this.Man trapped under garage doorMy ‘STUPIDITY’ only resulted in my hand getting torn and tattered. How many ‘Stupid’ things have you done, then said, “Boy was that ‘Stupid’. Thank God no or little damage was done”. Once, one recognizes ‘STUPIDITY’, one should avoid it.21

Be careful where you sit.22

REMEMBER23

In this Game of Life each individual has their own ‘Special Hand’.24

How you ‘SEE and ‘CHOOSE’ will affect your results.2526screen-shot-2015-04-07-at-10-54-34

Throughout your life, influences will be abound, affecting your:27

All Humans share the following.29

Marcus Aurelius says it is the obstacles and the solutions that define who we are as Human Beings.30Thomas Edison when asked about his battery failures replied, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. Other Gems of Edison include:

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

“Negative results are just what I want. They’re just as valuable to me as positive results. I can never find the thing that does the job best until I find the ones that don’t.”

“When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t.”

“If we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”

“The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.”

“We often miss opportunity because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work”

“Five percent of the people think;
ten percent of the people think they think;
and the other eighty-five percent would rather die than think.”

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

Which leads us to:35

Everyone is born with one of these. ‘IT’ is called a:36

It is:37

If everyone has a “Success Mechanism”, then how is it defined?38

The most common response that is given, is that people want to experience ‘Happiness’.39

During my journey, I discovered that defining my ‘unhappiness’ is much easier and simpler than defining my ‘Happiness’. Think in terms of recalling your 3-4 worst, ‘unhappy’ moments or events of your life. Personally, if I am not experiencing those moments of ‘unhappiness’ in my current reality, then I must be ‘Happy’.40 41

Before one goes to sleep, an easy self-check could be done. I ask myself two questions.4243

How you proceed, will be up to you. The foundation for achieving ‘Homeostasis’ has been explored. For any Game-Plan to get the results it seeks, it has to have a solid foundation.

If you are willing to participate in the “TAKE 5” Game-Plan for Life/Sports, you will be tested. The results will be your results. Your results will be determined by your ‘Commitment’.

TESTS FOR LESSON #1—Four Week Test
Daily Quizzes

1. Upon awakening, give thanks for another day, and whatever other prayers you want to send.
2. Stretch for a minimum of 10 minutes. Think in terms, you are a cat.
3. Read ‘Inspirational Materials’ for 15 minutes. (I have two steady companions with two other guests.)
4. Practice ‘Self-Contemplation’ for fifteen-thirty minutes. (Find quiet space. Practice relaxation with your own techniques. Try to calm the ‘inner body’. Suggestions indicate one can get results prior to bedtime. Others suggest, the same time when possible daily. Think ‘Rhythm’.)
5. Practicing staying on your feet. Your waking time should have a balance between sitting and standing. Standing provides more benefits.
6. Weigh yourself. Same time of day, with little or no clothing. The scale shows a result.
7. Stay ‘Hydrated’. Monitor your fluid intake.

FAMILY HEALTH TREE TEST

This test is used to help observe and analyze any pattern of inherent disease. Hopefully, proactive actions will be taken to lessen or prevent that disease from occurring once patterns are identified. Use the code for disease, or fill in your own. B=Birth date; A/D=Age of Death.

You can order a DNA test. Personally, a little mystery adds to the Game of Life. The Family Health Tree will provide you with the scouting report that you can utilize. The more info you can gather, will build your personal playbook.Family Health Tree

PERSONAL HEALTH INVENTORY TEST

Take the test. Do not peek for results will be found on the scoring sheet. It is suggested that a short inventory of your discovery be written, and that a journal be kept. Feel free to write experiences for your personal Wellness Plan and Philosophy of Life.Personal Self-Inventory

Self-Inventory Score Sheet

HEALTHY BEHAVIORS CHECKLIST TEST

This is a minimum four week test. Use the code: Y=YES, you did it; N=NO, you did not. Fill in the dates on top. One sheet covers two weeks. EXERCISE needs to be for at least 50-60 minutes, blocks of 15 minutes are acceptable, at least 5-6 days a week. Walking is a powerful tool. Some weight resistance training and abdominal work needs to be included. Think push-ups, use a variety of push-ups as found on the Internet. Do the same for abdominal exercises. Drug or excessive alcohol use will sabotage your efforts. Healthy Behavior Checklist

TIME MANAGEMENT CHART TEST

This is another four-week test. This is a self-discovery lesson in how to manage your time. There are two trains of thought. 1. I will manage my time. 2. I will let time manage me. If you subscribe to #1, then use the Time Management Chart to plot out your day, as a coach would a practice session. Be flexible when obstacles arrive.

If you subscribe to #2 then track all activities in the time slot. Regardless of your preference, at the end of each week, summarize your findings in the WEEKLY SUMMARY. If more categories are needed, please add them.Time Management Sheet

Time Management Summary

As Lesson #1 concludes, you will decide what if any you will take with you. “Marcus Aurelius learned how to live within his soul — or “inner citadel,” as he put it — a place of peace and equanimity. Living from this space, he believed, gave him the freedom to shape his own life by controlling his thoughts”.

For more on the philosophy of Marcus Aurelius, I encourage you to read the following two articles: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/26/marcus-aurelius-happiness_n_4831105.html and http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/16/this-ancient-blueprint-fo_n_5312209.html

As our paths separate, please take the following ‘GEMS’ with you. I collect ‘GEMS’ to add to my Philosophy of Life. These ‘GEMS’ come from a daily companion.
