‘TAKE 5’ DREAM NEWSLETTER #3: 10/26/16—‘INTEGRITY’ IS QUESTIONED WITHIN BASEBALL PROGRAM AT FOOTHILL HS. PLUS, A RECAP OF DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES AT BASIC HS/ACADEMY & MORE. YOU THE READER CAN DECIDE THE INSANITY OF THE STORIES.
If you are a fan of Foothill HS baseball, I encourage you to read with caution or do not read at all. If you are not a fan of Foothill HS baseball, the same applies to you. Before the Foothill HS story can be told, a recap of Discriminatory Practices at Basic HS/Academy is in order.

THE QUEST FOR THE TRUTH OF MY INSANITY CONTINUES IN & OUT OF MY FISHBOWL LOCATED @ ‘YE OLDE’ HENDERSON, NV AS ‘TAKE 5’ CONTINUES SHARING AND PROMOTING THE DREAMS OF OTHERS.
Many thanks go to my readers who voluntarily contributed to my last Facebook post. 54 readers showed approval and support for ‘TAKE 5’ DREAM NEWSLETTER #2. There were 10 comments, with a mix of approvals and disapprovals. This Post is about 8,300 words.
For those of you new to my posts, guidelines have been established previously for my right to respond to comments on a post. This is where I want to begin. In my last post, I wrote:
AS I CONCLUDE THIS SEGMENT, MANY FACTS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED. SOME WILL PERCEIVE THE INFO AS NON-DISCRIMINATORY. OTHERS WILL PERCEIVE THE INFO AS DISCRIMINATORY.

The results indicate that the above statement is true as one Observes & Analyzes the written replies of others. According to Buddha, this process is defined as a ‘Knowing’. In my response, emotions will not be included. Truthful Facts will and always have been used in all of my posts. My sister is the only one that has corrected a fact. Madonna’s father was from West Aliquippa Pa., not her mother.
Carla Blake writes: “Check this out George: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/reg…/2015Register/R060-15I.pdf
You might be able to become a whistle blower: mismanagement of funds, lining his own DEEP POCKETS, of a public school, discriminating those who can NOT afford his OUTRAGEOUS ASININE FEES, by turning them away, even though they have the talent!!! Get ahold of the parties mentioned in these NRS/NAC CODES who answer to the State Legislators!!! Take this to the media as well, the tv stations/ expose them!!!
This is a form of BULLYING, by the coach, which is also, ILLEGAL!!! Forget the Clark County School Board, as they obviously are covering for this man!!! Like Barry said, bypass and go to the top!!! FILE A WRONGFUL CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT, for DISCRIMINATING those young men, he turned away because of financial reasons!!!
MAKE A STATEMENT, MAKE SOME NOISE, RUFFLE SOME FEATHERS, cuz GUARANTEED, YOU WILL GET PUBLICITY!!! Go to attorney BOB MASSEY, he LOVES to RAISE THE ROOF, and your VOICE WILL BE HEARD WITH BOB!!! He will go straight to Brian Sandoval!!”

CARLA, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS. Bob Massey and I are from Beaver Valley, Pa. Our paths have crossed previously in Las Vegas concerning legal matters. As results unfold, contacting him remains an option, as do the others.
Barry M. Mastrodomenico writes: “With all due respect George…why piddle around and beat YOUR head against the stone wall expecting something other than blood from your forehead?
You know I’m behind you on this, but being that Cody was victimized the first year of all of the “pay to play” and we simply couldn’t afford the stupidity, he went on to play golf and receive a golf scholarship for his efforts. He was also CRUSHED by NOT being able to continue playing in a sport he was gifted at.
My point is: why piss around for so long with the local entities and keep getting nowhere? This is over three years old now!!! This should go to District and State Legislative Representatives by now! These people are State employees!! Enough is enough!! Stop dicking around and if anyone is truly serious about exposing and change…take the State employee issue to the State. Overall…Sandoval has the final say where my taxes go and where these people’s pay checks and pensions go!

We sat on the Board together, I respect you, but enough is enough!! If it’s change you truly want affect…..TAKE IT TO THE TOP!!! What a great way to earn everyone’s respect!! And I don’t mean chairpersons. I MEAN THE TOP!! Love ya buddy!
Chris…as you could see, Cody was the first group!! Along with too many of the best players Henderson had to offer. Parents cried, players couldn’t play!!! Ridiculous!!”

BARRY, YOUR WORDS RING WITH VALIDITY. Thank you for thinking about my head. My recent past experiences with the Basic HS/Academy has provided some meaningful results. I now wear one of Nick’s old batting helmets when I write in case I am blindsided again with a bat. The ‘TOP’ is what I seek.
Chris Val Ruiz writes: “Thank you so much for this post my child attends basic high school he has played baseball for many years but did not try out for basics team last year due to the cost my son bless his heart knows we live on a very fixed income it broke my heart to know that he didn’t try out in order to not put a financial burden on our family this trend of high school coaches charging outrageous fees needs to stop basic high school is missing out on great athletes due to greed shame on them.”

CHRIS, YOUR WORDS TOOK A LOT OF COURAGE. With you stepping forward, another publicly known family has been added to the list of families that are and have been Discriminated against by the Basic HS/Academy baseball program because of their financial situation.
Others in your financial situation have confided in me. There are plenty of other families experiencing the same Discrimination, but because of the current policies of the CCSD regulating Discrimination, they have no legal recourse. Additionally the fear of retribution by the principal of Basic HS/Academy plays heavily in them not taking action.

Frank Chaves writes: George I was back in Henderson a few weeks ago and visited the old baseball field. As always I went by and visited Nick’s tree. It was always enjoyable to watch a baseball game with you and watch our son’s compete. As you know I was a baseball coach at Basic both JV and Varsity.
George I agree with some prior comments ENOUGH!
If you think that there is a case to be made do it in the proper fashion not thru posts on Facebook. This serves no one and it is not productive.
Nick is always in my prayers.
Regards
Frank Chaves
Please allow me to edit my post. If I thought anything was unethical at Basic as to baseball I would be the first to fix it as I have in the past. In reading some of the posts it is evident to me that some folks have no idea how demanding coaching High School baseball can be. Someone mentioned that coaches are paid by the state.
Oh please that never even paid for my gas. Not unusual in running a successful program such as at Basic to be a 55 hour a week commitment. I am aware of players that committed to the program and whose folks lack the funds were not required to pay. You refer to the coach but his name is Scott Baker.
I have known Coach Baker for many years and in my view Basic is very lucky to have him running the program. He is there based in part on my recommendation and a few other folks. Please take time to know the facts before you bash an individual or the program he devotes way too many hours to. Not to mention all the hours he has put in coaching at the youth level in the past.
No one is more protective as to Basic baseball than me. If there is something that is immoral or unethical based on true facts please let me know. Go Basic.
I see nothing productive in continuing to follow these posting. George I wish you well.”

FRANK, WITH IT SO CLOSE TO HALLOWEEN, THANK YOU FOR THE BAG OF TRICKS AND TREATS. You begin treating me to the ‘good olde days’ as we sat by Nick’s Tree watching our sons play. Please correct me, did baseball players in those ‘good olde days’ have to pay a monthly stipend to play baseball at Basic HS?
What is the proper fashion to express truthful facts? Who gauges productivity? I follow the principle of Gandhi. “An audience of one is an audience of many.” With your lengthy response, it indicates that you are among the one. Let me examine your response for facts and truthfulness.
You defend the baseball program as being ‘ethical’. What facts do you use to support that statement? Others, including myself, disagree with your assessment of the program. Our disagreements are based on the current facts that were reported by me in my previous posts. These facts prove that ‘unethical’ practices are being conducted at taxpayers’ expense on the campus of Basic HS/Academy.

You claim that coaching high school baseball is demanding. Is it more demanding than football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, flag football, etc.? Coaches, players and families of other sports will disagree with you. If that is true, then why are not all the other coaches of all the sports at Basic HS/Academy given the same luxury to conduct their programs as the baseball program?
Frank, coaches are paid by the state. All employees of the CCSD are state employees. If that is true, should they be paid or not paid according to the 2016-17 CCSD Negotiated Agreement, Article 17, ‘Extra Pay For Extra Duty’.
You write, “Oh please that never even paid for my gas.” If that statement is true, then again, why is this baseball program operation model not being offered to all the coaches at Basic HS/Academy, let alone all staff members?
Frank also writes: “I am aware of players that committed to the program and whose folks lack the funds were not required to pay.” Frank, if that statement is true, could you please supply a list of all the players and families since 2011 that have played varsity and/or junior varsity baseball at Basic HS/Academy on a ’free ride? A publicly known list exists for those players/families that were discriminated against. With the two lists, a comparison could be made.
Frank, thank you for sharing your views of your relationship with Scott Baker and how lucky Basic is to have him. All who reading this now knows that it was yours and others recommendations that resulted in the hiring of Scott Baker.

Frank, your tricks continued. You write, “Please take time to know the facts before you bash an individual or the program he devotes way too many hours to.” Frank, my writings are based solely on truthful facts. You have not substantiated all of your statements with facts. You express only a view.
Frank also claims, “Not to mention all the hours he has put in coaching at the youth level in the past.” Frank, when you say ‘Youth Level’, was that as an unpaid volunteer similar to Little League, Henderson Parks & Rec, ‘Fall Ball’ or was it through his private organization the Southern NV Blue Sox operating at taxpayers’ expense at Basic HS/Academy?

Frank concludes, “No one is more protective as to Basic baseball than me. If there is something that is immoral or unethical based on true facts please let me know. Go Basic.” Frank, if you are the ‘Guardian’ of the Basic HS/Academy baseball program, I challenge you to a ‘QUEST’.
There is no right or wrong answers, only results and facts. After you complete the ‘QUEST’, please share with me and/or my readers your findings in the comment section of this post or future posts. You can also private message me your findings.
THE FOLLOWING ‘QUEST’ IS CALLED, “FRANK CHAVES, AS GUARDIAN OF THE BASIC HS/ACADEMY BASEBALL PROGRAM, I VOW TO DO MY VERY BEST, FOR MY INTEGRITY WILL BE PUT TO THE TEST”
Before you begin your QUEST, some research on a computer should be your starting point to verify the following information retrieve from various websites. The website will be listed along with facts from the website.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE VERIFIED THE FACTS, YOUR QUEST NOW BEGINS WITH THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS.
* How many players/families at Basic HS/Academy since 2011 have played junior varsity/varsity baseball for free? Please include their names and years played.
* How many of these ‘free players’ earned a college baseball scholarship? Please include their names, the monetary value of the scholarship and for how many years?

* How many players/families at Basic HS/Academy since 2011 have paid a stipend to the Southern NV Blue Sox in order to play junior varsity/varsity baseball? Please include their names, years paid, and the total amount of the stipend paid over four years.
* How many of these players/families who ‘paid a stipend’ earned a college baseball scholarship? Please include their names, the monetary value of the scholarship and for how many years? Was the college baseball scholarship value equal to, lesser, or greater than the total stipend value paid to the Southern NV Blue Sox over a four year period?
Frank, let me be the first to inform you that all of this information should be available upon your request. The Southern NV Blue Sox declares that they are non-profit, 501-3C organization. In addition, your personal relationship with the head baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy should play in your favor.
Since your recommendation assisted in the hiring of the current baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy, would it not also be your responsibility to analyze the current/past ‘books’ and the financial income and expenditures of the Southern NV Blue Sox in order to substantiate your claims that it is an ‘ethical’ and moral operation.
With the books opened, you can then compare the yearly salary of the head baseball coach to all the other coaches and/or faculty members at Basic HS/Academy. This will provide evidence if his salary is in line with the 2016-17 CCSD Negotiated Agreement, Article 17, ‘Extra Pay For Extra Duty’. The faculty will then be able to judge their ‘monetary value’ against the head baseball coach’s salary.

Once you examine their books, which according to ‘law’ is your legal right, you can share with the rest of us on the ‘ethical’, moral, and/or ‘unethical’, immoral practices of the Southern NV Blue Sox operating at the expense of the Henderson taxpayer on the campus of Basic HS/Academy.
With those facts now in order, your ‘QUEST’ continues. As the ‘Guardian’, it is your duty to contact Cindy Smith-Johnson at the CCSD, phone number 702-799-5865 and request a meeting to secure copies of the following documents:
According to the district, the following are the two CCSD regulations that the head baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy is operating under.
- Procedure for District Facility Use Request (CCF-410)
- Clark County School District Facility Usage In-Kind Service Agreement
- To receive ‘special treatment’ from the CCSD, an organization must present a copy of their non-profit, tax-exempt status among other pertinent documents. The head coach in May of 2014, at a baseball banquet, where I served as a MC and ‘Guest Speaker’, publicly thanked certain individuals in the audience for assisting him with the paperwork to finally attain his non-profit, tax-exempt status for his Southern NV Blue Sox organization.
If what he said was true, then under what ‘status’ was he operating with the CCSD prior to that, between September 2011 and May 2014?
IF WHAT I WROTE IS TRUE, THEN UNDER WHAT SET OF CCSD REGULATIONS WAS THE SOUTHERN NV BLUE SOX AS A FOR PROFIT BUSINESS OPERATING UNDER BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2011 AND MAY 2014?

The head coach publicly said he was a profit organization with tax liabilities prior to May 2014. A proper review of these files can then determine if this ‘club sport for profit’ has been operating legally under the regulations of the CCSD from 2011-2016.
Frank, your ‘QUEST’ has one final part. After you secure copies of all the required documentation of the operations of the Southern NV Blue Sox on the campus of Basic HS/Academy from the CCSD offices, you have one last stop.
With your ‘Integrity’ as Guardian of the Basic HS Baseball Program on the line, you must set up a meeting with the principal of Basic HS/Academy. The purpose of the meeting is to request a copy of all the documentation concerning the operation of the Southern NV Blue Sox on the campus of Basic HS/Academy since 2011 thru 2016/17.

After you obtain all of the information, your ‘QUEST’ will be completed. Then you will be able to make your own judgement about the legality, ethical, and moral operations of the Southern NV Blue Sox on the campus of Basic HS/Academy at the expense of Henderson Taxpayers. My readers and I look forward to you sharing your truthful findings.
FRANK IN A PARTING SHOT, IN A REPLY TO CORKY ROUNDY’S STATEMENT, TRICKED ME AGAIN. HE AGREED THAT I SHOULD BE ‘RUN OUT OF TOWN’ FOR WRITING TRUE FACTS, AND FOR A ‘LIFE CHANGING EVENT’ BACK IN THE MID 1990’S. THIS ‘LIFE CHANGING EVENT’ RESULTED WITH MY REASSIGNMENT FROM MY FOOTBALL COACHING POSITION AT BASIC HS. (More on this later.)
Paulie Thompson writes: “It’s sad that you are bashing basic high school it really bugs me that someone other then Gorman wins a state title and you do this to their program if u want to bash someone bash Gorman they got the best team that money can buy its just like anything in life if I play pool or bowl 2 months out of the year and you play all year long you will kick my ass those boys at basic work their asses off with great coaching and hard work if anything you should be proud that your son was a part of that program they turned it around from a not even 500 team to a state title so hold your head high and be proud!!!”
PAULIE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. HOWEVER, YOU ARE COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES. GORMAN IS A PRIVATE SCHOOL. BASIC HS/ACADEMY IS A TAXPAYER FUNDED PUBLIC SCHOOL. Since Gorman is not funded by my tax dollars, my issues are with how my tax dollars are being used to fund an ‘unethical’, immoral baseball program at Basic HS/Academy.
Not once in any of my posts have I questioned the work ethic of the Basic baseball players. The head baseball coach’s record speaks for itself. His coaching ability has not ever been mentioned in my posts.

As with all past players, families, coaches, staff, alumni, and fans of Basic HS/Academy, we all share the same pride and hold our heads high for the players of 2015-16 Nevada State Baseball Championship Team.
PAULIE, A SEGMENT OF THE BASIC HS/ACADEMY ZONE IS FACING DISCRIMINATION BECAUSE OF THEIR FINANCIAL SITUATION FROM PLAYING BASEBALL AT THE SCHOOL. IT IS THE ASSESSMENT OF ‘TAKE 5’, AND OTHERS THAT ALL WILLING, AND ABLE PLAYERS/FAMILIES SHOULD BE ABLE TO ‘PLAYIN THEIR DREAMS’ REGARDLESS OF THEIR FINANCIAL STATUS.
Kristy Roundy writes: “You did not help these boys win a state title. Their hard work and dedication did to the game they love. Both of my sons have played here and ANYONE is welcome to try out for season and there is no charge. I hope one day you stop this bashing and realize if there was an issue someone would have responded to your incessant rantings by now. STOP!!!!!!!!!”

KRISTY, SINCE 1942 WHEN BASIC HS FIRST OPENED THEIR DOORS AS RAILROAD PASS HIGH SCHOOL TO ITS STUDENTS, EVERY TAXPAYER IN HENDERSON, NV HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS OF ALL THE STUDENTS INCLUDING THE BASEBALL PROGRAM.THIS IS AN AERIAL VIEW OF HENDERSON, NV IN 1942
Kristy, my contributions began in 1979 and continue thru this current day. Every baseball player, family, coach, faculty, staff member, student and fan from 1942 on, (RE-NAMED BASIC HS IN 1945) has contributed to the success of the baseball program at Basic HS. Some have contributed more than others have.
Since 2008, The Nick Feher ‘Take 5’ Foundation with the help of others in and out of our community celebrated, promoted, and shared the dreams of the Henderson baseball community. What began with a Speech, a ‘Plaque’ and a $500 Scholarship, then blossomed into annual event at the Black Mt. Aquatics Complex attended by hundreds.
In 2012-14 the doors of Nick’s Home was opened to celebrate the baseball season of the Basic Wolves varsity baseball team at no cost to the players and coaches. Check with your sons and other members of the Basic squad to verify my facts.

One, two, or both of your sons plus your family may have attended one of the above events. I do remember dropping off invitations for the 2015 celebration to Corky Roundy. My invitation was declined.
Kristy writes: “Both of my sons have played here and ANYONE is welcome to try out for season and there is no charge”. Kristy, can you please expand on your statement. Exactly what do you mean? Are tryouts free or do you have to pay once you have a spot on the team? On the other hand, are both the tryouts and the season free?
Barry M. & Chris V. write in their comments that playing baseball at Basic HS/Academy comes with a financial price. Others have made similar claims in past comments on my posts. Privately, others have confided in me making the same claims, that there is a ‘stipend’ to play baseball at Basic. Which side is one to believe? You state ‘FREE’. Others state ‘PAY’.

Kristy, for the sake of a hypothetical discussion, you state, “Both of my sons played here.” If what you said is true, your family occurred zero costs. If what the others said is true, you and your family has spent over $40,000 to play baseball at Basic HS/Academy.
Did your sons earn college baseball scholarships? What is or was the financial worth of the scholarships? How many years were the scholarships for? If you paid zero fees to the Southern NV Blue Sox, you should be singing their praises from the top of the ‘B’. Your loudness should resonate throughout the Henderson region, for your sons earned a ‘Free College Baseball Scholarship’, compliments of the Southern NV Blue Sox and Henderson taxpayers.
However, if Frank Chavez uncovers during his ‘QUEST’ in the books of the Southern NV Blue Sox that you and your family paid the Southern NV Blue Sox for their services while they utilized Basic HS/Academy at Taxpayers’ expense, your baseball experience was not free.

Only you and your family know the exact amount of cash, if any, that you willingly paid to the Southern NV Blue Sox. If the College Baseball Scholarships your sons earned did not substantially exceed your contributions to the Southern NV Blue Sox, P.T. Barnum offers the following, “There’s a sucker born every minute”.
KRISTY CLOSES WITH, “IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE SOMEONE WOULD HAVE RESPONDED TO YOUR INCESSANT RANTINGS BY NOW.” KRISTY, APPARENTLY, THERE IS AN ISSUE, FOR MORE READERS HAVE RESPONDED FAVORABLY TO MY POSTS THAN OTHERS HAVE.
Corky Roundy writes; “Mr Feher weren’t you the coach that got fired from Basic coaching football. The answer is yes. Also I’m a life long Henderson resident and Basic graduate, you sir are a disgrace to Henderson. Also stop trying to take credit for Basic winning the state title, you sir had zippo to do with it. You do absolutely nothing for your foundation with these kinds of postings. There’s a reason no coaches in this town will give you the time of day. Maybe sir you should take a moment and look in the mirror and what you see will in fact be your biggest problem. Try to honor your foundation with positive and truthful post”.
CORKY, THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND YOUR RESPONSE. ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU ARE A LIFE-LONG RESIDENT OF HENDERSON AND A GRADUATE OF BASIC HS. IT IS AN HONOR TO BE ‘VILIFIED’ AS A ‘DISGRACE’ BY SOMEONE OF YOUR STATUS. WERE YOU SELECTED TO YOUR CURRENT STATUS BY THE RESIDENTS OF HENDERSON, NV OR ARE YOU SELF-APPOINTED?

Corky, please let me respond to your above allegations. The Nick Feher ‘Take 5’ Foundation is based solely on positive and truthful posts. Your response indicates that, for you do not present one truthful rebuttal to any of my writings. As with my sister, I will acknowledge any if you do.
My relationships with other coaches in town, until you prove otherwise, remain very solid with the ones I have built over time. If a few baseball coaches in town choose not to give me the time of day, they are plenty of others who would do so.
Corky, as far as my credit for helping to win a state title, please reread my reply to Christy Roundy.

Yes Corky, I did experience a ‘Life Changing’ event upon my coaching reassignment from Basic HS football. If my memory serves me correct, there were two men in the room when my ‘Life Changing’ event occurred. You were not one of them. For you to make an accusation that I was ‘fired’ and a ‘disgrace’ is only your opinion. However, please let me relive my ‘Life Changing’ event.
First, a definition is in order. Excerpts are written by Alison Doyle@ https://www.thebalance.com/termination-from-employment-2060505
What does termination from employment mean? Termination is when an employee’s job ends. There are two types of job terminations.
Termination can be a voluntary termination of employment by the employee. Voluntary termination includes resignation or retirement.
Employment termination can also be involuntary – when an employee is terminated by the employer. Employees can be terminated for cause. In that case, an employee is fired or dismissed from their job. Employees can also be laid-off when there is no work available for them.
Dismissal from Employment
Dismissal from employment (also known as being “fired” or “let go”) is the termination of employment against the will of the employee.
Common Reasons for Dismissal
Dismissal can be due to issues with the employee’s performance, but it also may be due to factors outside the employee’s control, such as downsizing, company restructuring, or the elimination of a position.
Some common reasons for dismissal include poor performance or incompetence, attendance problems, and insubordination or other behavioral problems. Misconduct, or termination for cause, is another common reason for a dismissal. This is when employees are let go because of ethical issues, such as lying, falsifying information, stealing, or other major misconduct in the workplace.
At-Will Employment and the Legality of Termination
Employers are not required to provide a reason for dismissing an employee. This is because of at-will employment, which allows employers the freedom to dismiss employees, and employees to leave companies without providing notice.

Before meeting with Basic HS Principal Horace Smith on that day, Head Football coach Cliff Frasier informed me of Smith’s decision. Cliff assured me that he and the entire Basic football staff was appalled by the decision of Horace Smith.
Cliff and a few of his assistants met privately with Smith in my support to no avail. Coach Frasier hinted to me that complaints from parents and players had surfaced. To what extent, he did not know.
Horace Smith and I crossed paths before when he was the head football coach at Western HS. Upon entering his office on a surprise visit from me, Horace closed the door. When asked about the reason(s) for my termination, Smith remain very vague. He mentioned complaints from parents and players.
In my one and half seasons at Basic, I had not ever seen Horace Smith at one varsity football practice. I asked him if it was something, I did. Examples included,
* Did I curse at players?
* Was I verbally abusive to players?
* Was I physically abusive to players?
* Was I disrespectful to any players and/or their families?
Horace said no to all my questions. When asked why I was being terminated, he said my coaching style had offended some players and families. When asked to identify the accusers, Smith said, that was not possible.
To make a long story short, Smith provided no just cause for my termination. He mentioned that the perception of me teaching at Las Vegas HS and coaching football at Basic HS influenced his decision.

Since coaching in the CCSD is an At Will Employment Position, I was informed by Horace Smith that for the benefit of all parties, including me, that my services were not needed at Basic HS. As I drove home, a ‘Life Changing’ Bolt struck me.
One, I would not ever again coach in the CCSD. This was now the second time, I was a ‘victim of circumstances. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” The CCSD had the right to terminate anyone for no cause from his or her coaching position.
Prior to the start of my second season, in my third time as football coach at Basic HS, a new principal, Barry Gunderson was appointed at Las Vegas HS. The previous Las Vegas HS principal reluctantly gave me his blessings to coach football at Basic HS. Besides my teaching position, I was also the Head JV Softball Coach at Las Vegas HS.
Mr. Gunderson with his wisdom said my loyalties were not with Las Vegas HS and ‘terminated’ me with no just cause from my JV Softball Coaching position. Over time, the pieces fell into place. Smith and Gunderson had a history. Gunderson was Smith’s mentor and friend. The dots connected and my thanks to them continue to this day.

The CCSD would not ever be given another opportunity to unjustly terminate me from coaching. All future coaching offers to return to coaching in the CCSD were refused by me.
In time, the ‘true reason’ on why I was terminated at Basic HS was uncovered. As the varsity linebacker coach, I had to inform one of the inside linebackers from last season on the first day of fall practice that a defensive position change was in order for him to assist the team.
Due to a communication problem, the head coach forgot to inform the player of our agreed upon decision as a staff. The player’s mother was the secretary to Horace Smith. His father was the president of the football booster club. The power of the two played an important role in the decision by Horace Smith.
I was terminated because the parents and player agreed with no proof that I had discriminated against him by suggesting a change to a defensive position to help the team.

Their argument was that my decision was preventing the player from earning a college football scholarship. After my termination, the player did not play inside linebacker, nor did he earn a college football scholarship.
Two, this opened the door to coach my children and the other children in Henderson, NV at ‘no cost’ in multiple ‘Youth Sports’. I will let my coaching of ‘Youth Sports’ in Henderson, NV stand on its own record.
Corky, if I was such a ‘disgrace’ to the community of Henderson, why did these following ‘Youth Sports’; Henderson United Youth Soccer League, Henderson Parks & Recreation Department, Henderson Little League, Henderson Boys & Girls Club, Henderson Girls Softball Association, and Mike Kazek, former baseball coach at Basic HS clear me and entrust in me teaching and coaching the youth in Henderson, NV. Each new season, I was welcomed back.

My services were free and at no expense to the taxpayers of Henderson. With the support of the parents and players, we always strived to attain the results we all sought. Every season that I coached, concluded with an end of the season celebration. This was either at a public facility for a fee or at Nick’s Home at no cost to players and families. It was a fitting way to support the community and build relationships.
CORKY, LET ME CONCLUDE WITH THE FOLLOWING. EVERY DAY I LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND ASK MYSELF TWO QUESTIONS.
1. WILL I BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP SOMEONE TODAY?
2. WILL I DO MY VERY BEST TODAY?
I DO NOT SEE A PROBLEM. I SEE THE REFLECTION OF ONE WHO IS SEEKING SOLUTIONS THAT CAN HELP PROTECT AND SHARE THE DREAMS OF THE YOUTH AND OTHERS IN HENDERSON, NV. PLEASE LET ME HONOR THE NICK FEHER ‘TAKE 5’ FOUNDATION AND CONTINUE WITH A POSITIVE AND TRUTHFUL POST.
The following are excerpts taken from two different stories that were printed in the Las Vegas Review Journal dated October 30, 2010 & December 14, 2010. Reporter David Schoen at dschoen@reviewjournal.com or 702-383-0294 is the writer.

The story is relevant to the perceived ‘Discriminatory Practices’, the ‘unethical’ and immoral operation of the Southern NV Blue Sox on the campus of Basic HS/Academy at the expense of the taxpayers in Henderson, NV. The current head baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy is a central figure in these events both in the past and in the present.
AS A READER, YOU CAN DRAW YOUR OWN ‘KNOWINGS’. I WILL REVEAL MINE AT THE END.
“CSN BASEBALL COACH UNDER SCRUTINY”, 10/30/10
“First-year College of Southern Nevada baseball coach Chris Sheff is the subject of an in-house investigation regarding allegations that include whether players were inappropriately charged for a mandatory conditioning program.
“CSN administrators are aware of these allegations and are investigating,” K.C. Brekken, the school’s communications manager, wrote in an e-mail to the Review-Journal on Friday.
Players were charged $125 per month to participate in workouts beginning in early September with personal trainer Corky Field of Live-In Fitness in Henderson. The workouts were mandatory, according to multiple unnamed sources.

Mandatory team activities that players are required to pay for would be considered a violation of National Junior College Athletic Association rules.
“Conditioning programs in college level athletics are a fact of life and have been a part of the CSN program well before this coach,” Brekken wrote in the e-mail. “What CSN is investigating is whether there are any irregularities in these conditioning programs.”
Sheff previously coached for seven years at Bishop Gorman, leading the Gaels to five consecutive Class 4A state championships. Sheff was hired as the baseball coach and athletic director at CSN on July 9 to replace Tim Chambers, who left in June to become the baseball coach at UNLV.
Sheff said the players were “encouraged” to enroll in Field’s program, but that it was not mandatory.
“We want the kids to stay together and work out as a group,” Sheff said. “We think there’s an upside to that in terms of building team unity.
“Our facilities are not equipped to handle 30 guys. … With the cost that was thrown out, I thought it was a great opportunity for our kids.”
Field is listed on the Bishop Gorman website as an assistant wrestling coach and his nephew Johnny played baseball for Sheff at Gorman before signing a national letter of intent with the University of Arizona last November.

Corky Field said the CSN players were required to pay the $125 only for the first two months of his program.
“He came to me and I felt honored and wanted to do everything I can to help them out,” Corky Field said. “The kids are getting an advantage of being put through a process like this and being able to reach goals physically as well as mentally.”
Sheff confirmed that at least six players were not comfortable with or could not afford to pay for the workouts and stopped participating. Sheff said since the players were going to Field on their own, they were allowed to work with other trainers or at a local gym.
An unnamed source said many of the workouts with Field were held on a tennis court in Tuscany Village rather than at a gym.
“Guys were getting hurt from it, their shoulders, backs,” an unnamed source said. “It wasn’t worth $125. I don’t know where all the money was going to, but it doesn’t cost $125 to work out like that.”
According to several unnamed sources, the coaching staff also charged players $25 a week for food that was delivered after practice, which would also be a violation of NJCAA rules.

“It was pizza and wings,” the source said. “It wasn’t nutritious food.”
Former major league player David Segui, whose son was recruited to play at CSN out of Kansas City, Kan., by Chambers, said his son brought his own food and refused to pay.
“The money isn’t the issue, the principle is,” Segui said. “I’m more concerned for the other kids. They flat-out robbed kids of money they don’t even have.”
Assistant coach Chris Latham informed Sheff on Thursday he was resigning, although he said Friday that his decision was not related to CSN’s investigation into the program.
“COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA BASEBALL LOSING 20 SCHOLARSHIPS”, 12/14/10
The College of Southern Nevada baseball program will lose a total of 20 scholarships over the next two years, but avoided any further penalties, after a National Junior College Athletic Association investigation uncovered three rules violations under former coach and athletic director Chris Sheff. (AND HIS STAFF)
Instead, CSN will be limited to 14 scholarships, rather than the maximum of 24, beginning in the fall of 2011 and again for the 2012-13 school year.

“There is a sense of relief, especially because we will not lose postseason play,” said Arthur Byrd, the school’s vice president for student affairs.
Sheff was fired (WITH HIS STAFF) Nov. 3 without ever coaching a game at the school. His dismissal came one day after the school announced it would conduct an independent review of the baseball program to look into numerous allegations against Sheff and his coaching staff, including whether players were inappropriately charged for a mandatory conditioning program with personal trainer Corky Field of Live-In Fitness.

In a letter to Byrd detailing the NJCAA’s ruling, executive director Mary Ellen Leicht wrote that while there was no evidence to prove the $125 for the program was mandatory, “Any time a coach highly recommends his/her student-athletes take part in a program it is normally regarded as ‘mandatory’ in the eyes of the player.”
Leicht also wrote that because the program was negotiated by Sheff and offered only to student-athletes, it was considered an “inducement and outside of the allowable scholarship limits,” which constitutes a violation of NJCAA bylaws.
A fundraising activity conducted by Field in which players sent a letter to family and friends asking for donations to help pay for the conditioning program was also deemed a violation of NJCAA bylaws, according to Leicht’s letter.

IN ADDITION, THE NJCAA RULED THAT AN AFTER-PRACTICE MEAL PROGRAM ARRANGED BY ASSISTANT COACH SCOTT BAKER WAS A VIOLATION.
“Although violations of this nature could have resulted in the CSN baseball program being placed on probation for the current year, the NJCAA has taken into account the actions taken by the college to ensure future compliance with all association rules and regulations,” Leicht wrote.
IF THERE IS ANYONE TO DISPUTE THESE FACTS, PLEASE CONTACT THE LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL. WHERE DOES ONE BEGIN TO OBSERVE AND ANALYZE THESE FACTS?
As I connect the dots, you as a reader, can make claim to your own ‘Knowings’. This is what I ‘KNOW’.
* The current head baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy as a staff member of Chris Sheff at CSN in 2010 was involved in a scheme as described in a letter. “In a letter to Byrd detailing the NJCAA’s ruling, executive director Mary Ellen Leicht wrote that while there was no evidence to prove the $125 for the program was mandatory, “Any time a coach highly recommends his/her student-athletes take part in a program it is normally regarded as ‘mandatory’ in the eyes of the player.”
* In addition, the NJCAA ruled that an after-practice meal program arranged by assistant coach Scott Baker was a violation.
* “Although violations of this nature could have resulted in the CSN baseball program being placed on probation for the current year, the NJCAA has taken into account the actions taken by the college to ensure future compliance with all association rules and regulations,” Leicht wrote.

* These violations resulted in a loss 20 scholarships for two years by the NJCAA for the CSN baseball program. This is considered a ‘severe penalty’ especially for a coaching staff who did not ever coach a regular season game.
* The perception of the CSN administrators of these violations resulted in Chris Sheff and his staff including the current head baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy to be ‘Terminated’/fired with cause, from their job.
* Their ‘Termination’ under the above definition can be considered, “Misconduct, or termination for cause, is another common reason for a dismissal. This is when employees are let go because of ethical issues, such as lying, falsifying information, stealing, or other major misconduct in the workplace”.
QUESTION—WHERE WAS THE ‘GUARDIAN’ FRANK CHAVEZ AND OTHERS WHEN THIS STORY WAS TOLD? WAS THIS UNETHICAL PRACTICE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PRINCIPAL OF THE BASIC HS/ACADEMY AND THE CCSD PRIOR TO THE HIRING OF THE CURRENT HEAD BASEBALL COACH?
The ‘Quest for the Truth of my Insanity’ has now taken a ‘bizarre turn’. Please help me if you can in connecting the dots.
A NJCAA college CSN, operating down the street from Basic HS/Academy, which is also a Nevada state funded school, discovered an unethical and immoral practice within their baseball program. Severe penalties resulted on the college and the entire baseball staff was ‘terminated’/”fired with cause’’, for conducting such practices.

Basic HS/Academy, another state run school, and the CCSD, including current Trustee Deanna L. Wright supports and sanctions these same unethical, immoral practices on the campus of Basic HS/Academy at the expense of the taxpayers of Henderson, NV. These ‘Discriminatory Practices’ are preventing players and families from PLAYIN THEIR DREAMS of playing high school baseball because of their financial situation.
To rub salt into the wounds of Henderson Taxpayers, their tax dollars have been supporting the Southern NV Blue Sox whose STATUS AS A DOMESTIC NON-PROFIT CORPORATION HAS BEEN REVOKED BY THE STATE OF NEVADA.
IT IS TIME TO TAKE THIS ISSUE TO THE ‘TOP’, BETTER KNOWN AS THE ‘GREAT VOTING PEOPLE’ OF HENDERSON, NV. AFTER YOU CONNECT YOUR OWN DOTS AND COME TO A KNOWING, YOU WILL ARRIVE TO YOUR ‘ROAD NOT TAKEN’. YOU CAN FOR VOTE EITHER FOR OR AGAINST THE DISCRIMINATION, THE UNETHICAL AND IMMORAL PRACTICES OF THE SOUTHERN NV BLUE SOX ON THE CAMPUS OF BASIC HS/ACADEMY AT HENDERSON TAXPAYERS’ EXPENSE.

If you choose TO VOTE AGAINST, ‘TAKE 5’ encourages you to VOTE FOR RICHARD VAUGHN in the race for Trustee, CCSD, District A. ‘TAKE 5’ also encourages you to tell your family members, neighbors, friends and others to do the same, especially those not associated with Facebook. Your vote will ‘Make a Difference’ in promoting and sharing the dreams of others.
Once a change at the CCSD occurs, Richard Vaughn will then be put to his own ‘TEST’. ‘TAKE 5’ will document his actions or non-actions. When elected, if Richard Vaughn does not pass his ‘TEST’ by removing the principal and the head baseball coach at Basic HS/Academy for their ‘unethical’, immoral, and Discriminatory Practices, ‘TAKE 5’ is prepared to continue the Quest for the Truth of my Insanity to a higher level with or without the assistance of any CCSD Trustee.

Until our paths cross again, you are encouraged to help promote and share the dreams of others including your own. I leave you the following poem written by Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
There are two kinds of people on earth today,
Just two kinds of people, no more, I say.
Not the good and the bad, for ‘tis well understood
The good are half bad, and the bad is half good.
Not the rich and the poor, for to count a man’s wealth
You must first know the state of his conscious and health.
Not the humble and proud, for in life’s busy span
Who puts on vain air is not counted a man.
No, the two kinds of people on earth I mean
Are the people who LIFT and the people who LEAN.
Wherever you go, you will find the world’s masses
Are ever divided in just these two classes.
And strangely enough you will find, too, I ween,
There is only one LIFTER to twenty who LEAN.
In which class are you? Are you easing the load
Of overtaxed LIFTERS who toil down the road?
Or are you a LEANER who lets others bear
Your portion of worry and labor and care?
Fox/Feather reminds you to keep PLAYIN YOUR DREAMS!!
